“There is something uncompromising which sinks into our songs, and I think it happens in a similar way to this natural order and chaos I mentioned before. There is a sense of almost inevitable threat in creating something beautiful, just as with falling in love or swimming in the ocean, but the object is not to live in fear, but to harness it and transcend it. We never try to insert anything sinister into our music because if you’re really taking risks, avoiding cheap-tricks, then some kind of purer human darkness creeps in very naturally”
